Maybe I have mono. What are the symptoms of mono? Lethargy, difficulty breathing, cloudy thinking? No one can be this sick for so long without it being mono. Gawd, I feel like my very organs are shutting down! I just need sleep... a good, long sleep. Goodnight, world!

Still feeling totally crappy- if anything I feel worse instead of better after all this time. I do have a quite hilarious video to share though... it made my day. Let me set you up: this is taking place in the middle of British Literature this morning, when for some bizarre reason the guy that's talking in the video, Brent, decided to get up and lecture the class on the mechanics and timeline of the Terminator series. The guy is ridiculous.

I think this Quarter is going to go fast. We're already almost to the end of week two and I feel like I just got back from Thanksgiving (that break was waaaaay too short, lemme tell ya). Classes are going well- Biochem isn't too bad yet, but from what I hear it doesn't get tough until after the midterm.

I'm taking another English class this quarter- British Literature. I don't really need to take it for anything, but last Quarter was a lot less painful than I thought and I really enjoyed the professor. So far I'm a little disappointed because we're reading the Mayor of Casterbridge and I think it's insanely boring.

Oh, and I think I got the bug that Meg and Jordan had. I've been feeling so crappy pretty much since I got back to school. My head always hurts, I feel groggy all the time, my body aches... gotta love flu season.

One good thing though! Jared and I are having a lot of fun experimenting with his video camera. You should check out his videos and compare them to mine, the quality is soooo much better. Last week we did this weird experiment with milk, food coloring and dish detergent that makes the food coloring swirl and go nuts, and he taped it. Looks pretty cool and a little trippy... I dunno where he came up with doing something like that.

Crazy Holiday Fun

Well, that was a great week of food, family and friends! The two little cousins were sick though, too bad. In any case they scarfed their food down fast enough I don't think they missed out on any holiday cheer- those kids are like tanks! Probably ate more than I did.

I did have to look after them for a while though, boy was that fun. Almost first thing when we arrive at my aunt's house is "oh Maxine, you're a nurse, take a look at Jordan and Meggie!" Man, just because I'm in nursing school does not mean I know everything about medicine and kids with tummy aches and runny noses. And yet I got to babysit these so-called "sick" kids while they ran around the house terrorizing everyone yelling. So sick.

I did get a pretty sweet video out of Meg though. Exhibit A, the "I like turtles" kid (not Meggie):

Yay Thanksgiving!

Done with Fall Quarter, woo hoo, and now it's time to go home for Thanksgiving! I can't wait to see the family and eat soooo much turkey! My aunt makes the most amazing cranberry sauce- it has chunks of pineapple in it and is basically the texture of applesauce, only with cranberries. Oooh man and the sweet potato casserole... mmm. It is my American duty to stuff myself as much as possible for the next few days, so fully expect me to come back to school about 20 pounds heavier! I may even have to pay for two airplane seats on the return trip.

Yay for Ada. Well, not really Ada per se, but yay for friends in Ada. It's been a great summer and I did do a lot of beach lounging, as I promised, but now I'm so ready to get through another school year. Just two more years and I will be a bonafide college grad! It seems like the first two went really fast! As did the summer :(

Also, I sweeeeeeeeeeeeeear on my life I will post more often this year. I know, after two years I have a whopping eight blog posts. Like I said though, I think the webcam will help. Plus, I'll have more to talk about this year, I think. I started my new job at the grocery store in town yesterday (having one's own apartment is quite expensive and I can no longer afford it on my savings account alone!) and already I can tell there will be plenty of interesting customers and stories.

Anyway, first day of class tomorrow, time to go buy notebooks and pens and the like!

Woo hoo, it's summer time, once again! That means laying around on the beach for three months, yesss!

Wow, I haven't posted here forever! So much for the keeping-the-family-caught-up blog idea, I had no idea how much work college would end up being! I'm up studying until two in the morning on a regular basis to keep up with the chemistry and biology. There is just so much to memorize, and I have a creeping feeling that I won't need to know most of this stuff. When does a nurse need to know the phylum of a rose bush? Anyway, I'll try to be more diligent about posting here.

Jared got a sweet new video camera and gave me his old webcam, so I'm thinking about posting videos here. They might be faster/easier than trying to write traditional blogs all the time and fit them into my crazy schedule. Later!

Breakfast at Tiffany's??

I just watched Breakfast at Tiffany's for the first time and all I have to say is what is wrong with people? I've heard raving over this movie for a really long time (it came out in 1961 and I was born in 1987... I've probably been hearing about it from someone or other since I was able to comprehend speech), and so I finally got it from the library on campus and watched it today.

What... the... eff? I had to watch it in two shifts to get all the way through, and I honestly think it could have been cut, edited and canned after the first five minutes. Holly goes to Tiffany's. She eats breakfast there. Cut and print.

But no. It goes on for another 110 minutes. And won two Oscars! For what? For Audrey Hepburn being mildly attractive at best, totally materialistic and who only gets away with it because certain people think she's cute. And when she threw the cat out of the car! What a jerk! The only part of the whole film that moved me was when her and the cat reunited, and I was crying because the cat didn't have to live in the streets in the rain, not because Holly got a heart.

Forget that stupid movie.

So apparently I'm getting more viewers here than anticipated, and they're all confused about the 'Hello Egypt' banner. Well allow me to enlighten you. I'm from Egypt, Massachusetts, which is about an hour from Boston. It's right about here:

But then there's also Egypt the country, which, as I understand it, is a bit more well-known, hence I decided to go with the pyramids, Egypt-the-country theme for my banner. First Snow

Wow, it gets cold here fast!! Only the second of November and already it's snowing, brr! I bet it's chilly and rainy in Boston right now. They tell me the winters get pretty bad here and I better get some warm clothes (hint, hint, mother, *cough I like this coat cough*). Apparently last year they had a huge ice storm that knocked out the power for a couple of days and they had to cancel classes and send people home. If only...

Hello Egypt!

I'm starting this blog because this is my first time being seriously away from home and already I miss my family. It's only been a month but I can't wait to be home for Thanksgiving break! So I decided that while I'm at school a blog would be a pretty good way to keep the fam updated.

Well, what so far? Umm, classes are fine- just reviewing the stuff I already learned in high school so far, so piece of cake. The femur is connected to the tibia, and the tibia is connected to the fibula... all that jazz.

Oh, I met a couple cool people. First, there's Becky- she's in a lot of my nursing classes, and she's a little off-the-wall but a lot of fun to hang out with. And then there's Jared. He lives down the hall from me and always has a lot of ideas for when we're bored. Kind of a nerd, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
